TOFU (Top of Funnel) is the topmost stage of the marketing funnel, representing the point at which prospects first become aware of a brand or product.

Why It Matters

TOFU is the gateway to the entire marketing funnel. Without sufficient traffic and awareness at this stage, the pool of prospects available to advance into MOFU and BOFU is inadequate. Organic search is widely regarded as the most effective channel for driving TOFU traffic, with approximately 70% of marketers ranking it as their top TOFU channel. TOFU content should focus on education and information delivery rather than product promotion. Since prospects at this stage have no purchase intent yet, the priority is building trust and demonstrating brand expertise.
